My friend and colleague Juan Cole of the University of Michigan and the blogosphere (Informed Comment) has written a sidebar to the recent story about Koch Industries illegally doing business with Iran.
The Koch (pronounced “coke”) brothers, in addition to their support of the arts, are some of the biggest underwriters of the right wing in the United States. Those they finance are some of the leading US hawks, who are lobbying to attack Iran.
Is it hypocritical to be an uber hawk on Iran and at the same time do lucrative business there? Juan reminds us of some even more stunning examples from the not-too-distant past.
